Dear Senator Slotkin,

I am one of your constituents, living in Michigan. I've been following announcements of President Trump's Executive Orders. I believe that recent presidents have overused EOs, and that Trump has taken this practice to extremes. He seems to be rewriting government policy on many fronts, far overreaching his authority as president.

Regarding the January 6 pardons, I was surprised that he pardoned violent offenders. Although juries and judges found these persons guilty of violence, Trump seems to be more concerned with rewarding their support of him; he seems to be okay with the violence. I am concerned at how this may encourage future violence.

His suspending refugee programs seems callous and disregards the effect it will have. For example, he is stopping Afghan refugees who have already gone through rigorous approval processes from coming to the United States. These are people who provided help to our military, and who have been promised safety here; why should we pull the rug out from under them?

I don't have an opinion on the TikTok ban, but I am concerned with Trump's use of an EO to stop the ban. The executive branch is supposed to enforce laws; he is instead overriding legislation that was passed by Congress and subsequently upheld by the Supreme Court. Does he think he is a king?

These are just a few of my concerns. I ask that you push back on Trump's agenda. I would like to see the legislative branch fulfilling its responsibilities, and not just endorsing Trump's whims.

Thank you for your service for Michigan, and for your efforts to reign in Trump's power grab.

Sincerely,

Robin, MI
