Quilting for the Constitution
Peace by Piece
Washington D.C.
On May 6, 2025, thousands of women’s voices from across the political spectrum were stitched together to advocate for checks and balances. We gathered near the capitol to connect with each other and create call-to-action quilts. Each quilt was hand-delivered by constituents directly to their members of Congress.

Our mission
We bring women together to transform fabric into powerful, purposeful quilts in support of peace and constitutional rights. Through creativity and collective action, we amplify women's voices and send unforgettable messages to our elected representatives.
The U.S. constitutional system is built on the separation of powers, ensuring that no branch of government can dominate the others. This protects our rights, promising we have a say government and can turn to the courts if something goes wrong.
For our Quilting for the Constitution campaign, we celebrated women’s advocacy with a quilt-in supporting constitutional principles. For generations, women have stitched their hopes, struggles, and stories into fabric. Women have used quilts and textiles to send messages, to raise money, and to start movements.
We gathered voices from across the nation and wrote messages about principled leadership, ethical governance, checks and balances, human dignity, compassionate policymaking, and defending the Constitution.
And we literally stitched our voices together. Creating quilts and advocating for change. Peace by Piece.

Why Quilting?
From suffragists crafting banners demanding the vote to abolitionists sewing messages of freedom to quiltmakers protesting the spread of nuclear weapons, women have used their creative powers to defy injustice and call for action.
It’s how women built community, preserved truth, and pushed movements forward—one square, one seam, one story at a time.
Today, we honor that legacy with the Peace by Piece quilting campaign. And together, we carry forward this powerful form of advocacy and peaceful protest.
“We are now faced with the fact that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there 'is' such a thing as being too late. This is no time for apathy or complacency. This is a time for vigorous and positive action.”
–Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
