Dear Congressman Baumgartner:
My name is Michele and I am a psychotherapist. My husband, a retired surgical oncologist, and I have lived in for 30 years. For the past 4 years I have volunteered at a church congregation that was created for African refugees. Getting to know so many individuals and their often tragic stories has been deeply moving for me.
In part because of that experience, I feel strongly that USAID has been a force for great good in the world, and has done much to improve the standing of the US in the eyes of the world community. Instead of being dissolved, I believe USAID should be strengthened. I am proud to have my tax dollars used in such a beneficial way.
At this time, I believe it is also important to question the role that Elon Musk is playing not only with USAID, but with the FBI, the CIA, and perhaps most concerning, the Treasury. He has not been elected to any position and appears to be representing only his self-interests. Who is providing oversight to the self-appointed overseer? I believe that is a role you as an elected official must assume.
May I take this opportunity to thank you for your work on behalf of those you represent. Please know that what is happening is having a chilling effect on many of your constituents. We need your help.
Sincerely,
Michele, WA
