Pen Your Power
Updated: 2 days ago
What started around kitchen tables made its way to Congress.
Campaign dates: November 5, 2025 – September 30, 2026
Pen Your Power gave people across the country the opportunity to write on beautifully-designed postcards focused on checks and balances, human dignity, due process, and free speech. People from across the political spectrum added their own messages and wrote directly to their members of Congress about what they were seeing, what they cared about, and why these protections mattered to them.
And they didn’t just write alone.
Pen Your Power borrowed from generations of women who knew the power of gathering together to make change. Hosts invited friends, family, neighbors, book clubs, and congregations to postcard parties in homes, libraries, and community spaces. Around those tables, people with different political perspectives talked, listened, shared stories, and wrote side by side.
Then those postcards went to Washington, D.C.
Postcards came back to Women Building Peace from across the country, and our teams hand-delivered them to congressional offices. In its final chapter, Pen Your Power teamed up with Becoming America, adding four commemorative postcards for America’s 250th anniversary and bringing even more handwritten messages to Congress. Across Becoming America and Pen Your Power, 23,304 postcards were ordered, and Women Building Peace teams carried those messages to Washington, making 320 visits to congressional offices to hand-deliver them to elected representatives.
“Thank you for the opportunity to host a Pen Your Power postcard party. Having events that bring the community together and give people the chance to take positive action steps is invaluable… I appreciate you all and the creative, positive, purposeful ways you encourage us to engage with our legislators to pursue lasting change!”
