About the event

As America marks its 250th anniversary, Women Building Peace presents Becoming America, a reception in Washington, D.C. marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

The ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness have never been self-executing. Every generation has been called to do the work of carrying them forward. This evening is our answer to that call.

Becoming America is an evening of art, reflection, and civic participation at the heart of our campaign: My Hope for America. The event features a curated exhibition of 30 works submitted through an open call. Representing a range of perspectives, artists throughout the country reflect on the U.S. today and their hopes for its future.

The evening will include a short program with remarks from invited speakers and a viewing of a documentary on the work of Women Building Peace. Afterwards, guests are encouraged to spend time experiencing the exhibition, connecting with others who share a commitment to this nation, and engaging in conversation to inspire hope.

Guests will be invited to handwrite custom-designed 250th anniversary postcards with themes of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to their elected representatives.

This is an invitation-only event. Registration is required.

Finger foods and beverages will be served. Elevated casual attire.
